Bream Vendace

Do you know the difference between a vendace and a bream?

Nobody ever reads this (well, fair enough)

We assumed nobody would ever wander in here. Yet here you are. So allow us to tell you a story.

A client who ran an online shop asked us exactly that in our very first meeting. “I wanted to test your industry knowledge.”

(For the record, the shop didn’t even sell fish.)

“Oh, so you didn’t know either.”

the client remarked smugly

A joke? Possibly. Still, the person radiated plenty of the traits of a bad client, so

We decided the ten-grand deal on offer was definitely not worth it. That’s when we learned that no is a valuable word. Having said no to the client above, we felt braver and decided we’d keep saying no in future too.

  • One-sided partnerships
  • Marketing that tastes of nothing
  • Vanilla-scented work
  • Partnerships where everyone involved is genuinely excited
  • You, if you’re excited about what you sell
  • The challenges that have kept you stuck

Above all, we say yes to you if you think about your customer.

Maybe you’re reading this because you want to work with us? If you’re a wet blanket who’s afraid to face a client, if you repeat old “tried and tested” ways of working, if you don’t dare say things out loud: don’t come and work here.

The points above are practically obligations, and every one of our current employees has signed them as an appendix to their employment contract. You wandered in here to read a story. There it was, originally meant for internal use only. But it turned out so well that we decided to publish it.
